Itinerary

Sunday, April 25

Depart Cedar Knolls this morning and travel south past Washington, DC to Alexandria, Virginia. Take a short tour of the city and see the townhouses of George Washington and Robert E. Lee and many other 18th century buildings. There will be time to enjoy Old Towne before continuing your journey into North Carolina and arrive Roanoke Rapids. Dinner is included. (D)

 

Monday, April 26

After breakfast, depart for South Carolina and an afternoon arrival in Charleston. First stop will be at the Visitor Center before checking into your hotel for a 3 night stay. The Holiday Inn Historic District is a beautiful property and is within easy walking distance to some of the city’s main attractions. Tonight, you will dine on the local low country cuisine. Tuesday, April 27

Following a leisurely breakfast, take a tour of the city with a local guide. See 18th century buildings that have been preserved and restored to their original grandeur. Stop along the Battery and see the Old City Market. Your afternoon will be free to shop or explore the historic district. You can visit one the local plantations or Fort Sumter is located just a boat ride away and offers an insight to the beginning of the Civil War. (B)

 

Wednesday, April 28

Savannah, Georgia awaits you this morning.  A local guide will show you the lush garden squares and cobblestone streets of the city’s National Historic Landmark area - the largest in the U.S. Spend some free time browsing through the shops of the old converted cotton warehouses before returning to Charleston this afternoon.  Dinner is included. Thursday, April 29

Depart past Columbia, the state capital, and on to Asheville. Tour the Biltmore House, George Vanderbilt’s 250 room country estate and the largest private home in America.  Stroll through the gardens that were created by America’s first landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted. Check into your hotel this afternoon.  (B,D)

 

Friday, April 30

Today you will drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway and be amazed at the incredible vistas on this scenic byway of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There will be stops along the way so you may get out and enjoy the views. Check in to Hotel Roanoke this afternoon. The hotel is beautifully restored and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A farewell dinner is included tonight. (B,D)

 

Saturday, May 1

The views continue as you motor through the  Shenandoah Valley. Depart for home with fond memories of your southern holiday. Return approximately 6:00 PM.  (B)

 

CONDITIONS

A deposit of $200.00 ($309.00 with insurance) per person along with the completed application is due as soon as possible.  Make checks payable to Long’s Travel.

The final payment is due no later than February 25, 2010.

 

*This is the discounted price for payment by check. The cost for payment by other means is $1299.00 double occupancy, $1559.00 single and $1216.00 triple. Triple rooms cannot be guaranteed 3 beds or a cot.

 

CANCELLATIONS

Cancellations up to February 25, 2010 are refundable less a $25.00 service fee, per person. Cancellations between February 26 and March 17, 2010 are subject to a $500.00 per person penalty. After March 17, 2010 there is no refund.

 

INSURANCE

Cancellation/trip interruption insurance is available and highly recommended. Please add $109.00 per person to your deposit. Once purchased, the premium is non-refundable.
