Your Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Depart U.S. for London
Depart U.S. on your overnight flight to London.
Day 2: London at Leisure
Welcome to London! After immigration and baggage claim, take an independent coach transfer to your hotel, located near Oxford Street and near Hyde Park. Then you are free to rest after your journey or explore London on your own. In the evening enjoy a welcome drink with your guide and fellow travelers and discuss your trip.
Day 3: Tower of London & City Sights
This morning travel along well-known streets in central London to see some of the famous landmarks. Visit the Tower of London to view the magnificent Crown Jewels and see Beefeaters and ravens. Learn about the many people, including royalty, who were imprisoned here. Spend the afternoon and evening at leisure. (CB)
Day 4: Cambridge & York
Drive north to visit Cambridge and see some of the more important colleges, including King’s College. Head north to York to take a walking tour through this ancient town. Stroll along narrow streets and past medieval houses. Visit the stately York Minster to see its towers and stained glass. Continue through Yorkshire to your lovely manor house hotel in Guisborough. Day 5: Edinburgh Highlights
Head north to Jedburgh and stop for a while to look around this charming town with impressive abbey ruins before driving to Melrose. Visit Abbotsford House, Sir Walter Scott’s home, where he wrote most of his novels and lived until his death in 1832. Drive to Edinburgh for an introduction to Scottish culture and food at a traditional cabaret. (B, D)
Day 6: Edinburgh Highlights
Tour Scotland’s capital and see Princes Street, which divides the elegant Georgian "New Town" from the compact medieval city. Visit EdinburghCastle to see the Crown Jewels of Scotland and the Stone of Destiny. The afternoon and evening are free. On departures from August 2 to 16, experience the Military Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle. (B)
Day 7: Lake District & Chester
Journey through the Southern Uplands to the Moffat Woollen Mills with its wide array of Scottish goods. Drive through the scenic Lake District and stop in picturesque Grasmere. Continue to Chester for a walking tour. See "The Rows", picturesque arcaded shops in black and white half-timbered style. Walk along parts of the medieval city walls and tour historic Chester Cathedral. (B, D)
Day 8: Depart Manchester for Home
This morning take a group transfer to Manchester Airport where your tour concludes at 8:00 am. Allow plenty of time for check-in formalities. (B)
